Erazer Beast x40 RTX4080 Fan exception detected warning in control centre and GPU sticking at 210mhz
Hi, just got a Beast x40 RTX 4080 and the control center has the message "Fan exception be detected in current process" displayed all the time. I'm also having an issue where the GPU in games does not go above 210mhz thus rendering it useless for gaming. What does the fan message mean and are the two issues linked?
Me too

Hi@Jamryan,
Here are some solution what may help you to resolve the issue:
- Test the fans: Run a fan diagnostic through the control center to see if the fans are working correctly. You can also use third-party software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to monitor fan speeds and GPU temperatures.
- Reset the power settings: Ensure that the GPU’s power settings are set to maximum performance rather than low power. You can change these settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel under "Manage 3D settings."
- Reinstall drivers: Uninstall and reinstall the NVIDIA GPU drivers to ensure there’s no corruption causing the fans or performance to misbehave.
- Check for overheating: If your fans aren't working properly, or if there’s dust build-up, the GPU may be overheating and throttling. Make sure the cooling system is functioning well.
Best regards

Thanks for the reply, I’ve tried all those solutions. Reinstalling the GPU drivers causes it to work properly but after a restart it is back to 210mhz again. Also I can’t find any information explaining the fan message?

Hi@Jamryan,
The fan exception message you're seeing is most likely being triggered by the Control Center software, which manages fan speeds, performance profiles, and system settings. Since the issue reappears after a restart, the software may be misbehaving, possibly due to a corrupted configuration or a conflict with another program.
Here’s what you can try:
Check for Software Conflicts:
- If you have any other performance/overclocking software (like MSI Afterburner, EVGA Precision X1, etc.), try temporarily disabling or uninstalling those programs to see if they are conflicting with the Control Center software.
- Also, make sure your Control Center software is updated to the latest version, as updates can fix bugs like this one.
Clear Configuration Data:
- Sometimes, the Control Center stores configuration files that may get corrupted. Try to clear these settings or reset the software by uninstalling it and then reinstalling it. Look for any leftover files or registry entries after uninstalling, and remove them manually if possible.
Reinstall the Control Center Software:
- Uninstall the Control Center through Apps & Features in Windows.
- After uninstalling, check if there are any residual folders left in C:\Program Files (x86) or AppData. Delete any leftover files related to the software.
- Reinstall the latest version of the Control Center.

Thanks, strangely I seem to have a newer version installed than what is on the Medion site? I have 5.45.25.0 and the one in the Medion site is 5.45.23? Is there somewhere else to find it?

Hi@Jamryan,
I could check if there is a newer BIOS version, but I would need the MSN reference of your laptop which starts with 300.. and the current BIOS version.
Best regards
