Voter guide: what you need to know about your 2024 Washington state primary election ballot (2024)

Washington state's 2024 primary election day is Aug. 6 featuring races in all 39 counties including key positions such as governor, attorney general, and United States representatives.

The top two voted for candidates of each position will continue to the general election in November.

How to register

In Washington state, there are three methods to register to vote. Some voters are eligible to register online or mail in paper forms which are due July 29, eight days before the election. In-person registration at your local elections office is available until August 6 before 8 p.m.

To check the status of your voter registration, the official page can be accessed here.

Where to vote

Ballots, official voters’ pamphlets, and other materials are mailed to your registration address. After filling out your ballot it is your responsibility to sign the return envelope with a matching signature of the one kept on file. To update your signature, you can visit the official King County Elections website for additional information.

To ensure your vote counts, be sure that you turn in your ballot in person to your county elections office or local drop box by 8 p.m. August 6. No stamps are necessary as each return envelope has prepaid postage.

Washington state provides over 590 drop boxes for eligible voters, including one located in the U-District on the northside of Schmitz Hall. A map of all drop box locations can be found here.

Key dates

July 29: Online and mail-in registrations must be received by this date, eight days before the August 6 election.

July 30: The U.S. Postal Service suggests mailing back completed ballots one week prior to Election Day to ensure your vote is counted.

August 6: Washington state primary Election Day. In-person voter registration must be completed before drop boxes close at 8 p.m.
